What is Qwetu? How does it work?
Qwetu is brand of student residences in Nairobi. These are studio units are open only to students. If you are a full-time college student studying at a University or College in Nairobi, you are eligible to live with Qwetu. Qwetu offers students safe, high-end housing throughout Nairobi.
Who can live with Qwetu?
To be eligible to live at Qwetu, an applicant must be able to certify either (a) that he / she is currently enrolled as a student and is taking one or more courses, or (b) that the applicant is registered to take classes in the following semester. An applicant must not have been convicted of any offences that are punishable by the laws of Kenya.
How much does it cost to live with Qwetu?
Qwetu has multiple options available. All our properties and room types are priced differently, therefore, speaking to the Customer Experience Manager at your preferred Qwetu residence is the best way to find out what works best for your needs and budget. What is included with the room rates?
The room rate includes a basic student-style furnished room with a regular double bed divan, mattress, wardrobe, desk with chair, pair of curtains with sheers, Cable Free-to-Air (premium service is not included), Wifi in your room and throughout the building, fitness and laundry facilities (laundry cost is not included), 24-hour security in the building, water, a modern kitchenette fitted with a safe gas cylinder, pipe, regulator and single infrared burner, a microwave, and a 7CUFT refrigerator. Our Onsite Customer Experience staff is on call 24/7 for emergencies and also plans several free and low-cost activities each month, which you are invited to attend.
What forms of payment are accepted?
We accept direct debit on all major credit cards. You may also pay via M-Pesa Pay Bill to the property. Please note that Qwetu does not accept personal checks. No cash is accepted at the property. Cash payments can only be made by depositing into the property bank account.
What do I have to pay when submitting my reservation? Can I pay quarterly or annually?
A refundable deposit equivalent to one month rent MUST be paid to secure your reservation. Rent is payable monthly in advance. However, payment can also be done quarterly, or annually. For any other payment plan please Call us at 0800 730 333 and speak to us to arrange your payment schedule.
What security measures are in place at Qwetu?
Qwetu is committed to providing its residents with a safe and secure environment where they can comfortably live and pursue their studies. The safety department at Qwetu is overseen by a Security Manager with 15+ years of related experience, with a stellar career in the military. Professional security personnel are posted at the entrance of every Qwetu residence 24/7. There are also surveillance cameras throughout the buildings and live-in staff members.
Does Qwetu offer meal plans? Are there kitchen facilities in the residences?
Since we are not on-campus housing, we do not offer meal plans. However, all Qwetu residences feature a modern kitchenette within each studio unit (cooking supplies not provided).

Each Qwetu residence also features convenience retail outlets on the ground floor. These include a minimart, pharmacy, financial services outlet, a fast food restaurant, etc. We also offer a variety of discounts on deals with the retail outlets, local shops and restaurants.

After reserving my room, when do I receive information about check-in, what to bring, etc.?
You will find most of the information you need to start planning your life with Qwetu in the FAQ section. You will also receive an email from the Customer Experience team providing you with all of the information you need.
What documents do I need to provide?
An applicant needs to provide a copy of a valid current photo ID and a completed Booking Form, which is found on www.qwetu.co.ke. Current IDs (valid) are either a national ID for Kenyans or a Passport for non-Kenyans.
What is the check-in procedure?
You will receive an email with details from the Onsite Customer Experience team at least two weeks prior to check-in. You will need to show a valid photo ID at check-in. A government-issued photo ID can be either a national ID or a driver's license. Non-Kenyan persons MUST present a passport.
Can I live with a friend?
Yes, you can! If availability at the time of reservation allows you both to book the same room type, in the same building, we would be happy to put you together. To make this possible, make sure that BOTH of you request to live with each other when you are making your reservation.
How does room selection work?
Rooms are assigned on a first come, first served basis depending on your room type. We cannot guarantee views, floor numbers, and closeness to elevators, etc. However, if you have any special request please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.
Is there a curfew?
There is no curfew; our residences have 24-hour front entrance security and residents can enter with their Qwetu Access Card. However, most residences within Nairobi City have quiet hours that are from 11pm-9am. During final exams we may have a 24-hour quiet hours in effect.
Can I bring my car?
Sure, you can; however, you must book designated parking in the basement of your property. Additional charges for a parking ticket may apply.
What does Qwetu provide, and what can I bring? What size are the beds?
Please note Qwetu does not provide towels/linen, kitchenware or housekeeping. Outside furniture is prohibited in the residence to ensure fire safety and cleanliness of the rooms. All of our beds are regular double divan beds, the mattress is 6 inches x 3.5 inches.
What is the guest policy?
Residents are welcome to have guests, however there are guidelines to be aware of. Please ask any one of our Customer Experience team at our residences or call us at 0800 730 333 for more information.
What is the size of the rooms? How can I see the rooms?
We encourage you to visit the Qwetu residence of your choice to confirm the studios that we offer suit your lifestyle and comfort. Our Onsite Customer Experience team offers tours seven days a week at each of our buildings. Please call 0800 730 333 to schedule a viewing.
What is the cancellation policy?
To ensure the integrity of your reservation, all cancellation requests MUST be received by Qwetu in writing at least 14 days before the check-in date to be eligible for a refund. Cancellation requests received after the deadline will result in NO REFUND of the Deposit paid.

Cancellations received after the deadline will NOT receive Deposit refunds and the client will be responsible for the full cost of the reservation pursuant to the Tenancy Agreement. All refunds are processed via bank transfer within 2 - 4 weeks. An email notification will be sent to the client.

Payment confirmation
Payments should sync automatically. However, if you do not receive a payment confirmation page or if internet connection is lost during the process, please confirm payment here. You will need your invoice number, amount paid and the phone number that sent the payment. Thank you.
Can I send packages to Qwetu before I check in?
Unfortunately, we do not have enough storage space to hold packages for more than one business day. If you have not checked in, all packages received could be returned to sender.

What is the alcohol policy?
All Qwetu residences have a no alcohol policy within the social spaces. This means you are not allowed any type of alcohol regardless of age. We also promote the policy that alcoholic beverages may be consumed only by those who are of legal drinking age of 21 years.
